LEAVING TIME	Jodi Picoult	Fiction	When a friend offered to lend me this book, I was dubious. It was nothing like the books I would normally choose. I prefer romance, mystery or a romantic mystery. Suspense does thread through this story as an endearing young girl believes, and is eager to prove, her mother had not abandoned her as an infant. To aid her in her quest, she pores over notes her mother took as she studied elephants and their behavior. Your heart breaks for the girl at so many turns. But, for me, the real surprise was learning about elephants—they grieve, are loyal, communicate and have distinct roles in the herd. Three very positive things happened once I finished the book. There was resolution, I now love elephants and Jodi Picoult is a new favorite author.
